Giant Ape

The screen revealing the unconsious Giant Ape

The Giant Ape is a Monster used by the facility headquarters in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was one of the few Monsters seen in the film from different Organization facilities in other countries.

Physical Description and Attributes[]

The Giant Ape appears as a massive ape-like creature. It bears similarities to the Gorillas; dark greyish-black fur and is much larger than an adult human. However, the Giant Ape from Buenos Aires appears to be much more massive than the Monsters kept in the United States facility, possibly even rivaling the Giant. In addition, the Giant Ape has a pair of horns on its head. Its massive size and pair of horns could signify the Giant Ape is some sort of experimental Monster or a genetic mutation.

It could be speculated that the Giant Ape is not as strong as it appears, or that it has a weakness of some sort, as it was able to be defeated in the Buenos Aires facility. What summons the Giant Ape, or how, is unknown.

Appearances[]

The Giant Ape only makes one appearance, towards the middle of the film when Sitterson is viewing footage from the other countries that were supposed to have Monsters released to aid in the ritual. It is seen in some dimly-lit space with debris surrounding it, suggesting it may have fallen upon or before its death. It can also be noted that the abdomen of the Giant Ape is bloodied and its insides are exposed.

Inspiration[]

There are no direct inspiration references to the Giant Ape. Since it is only seen once, is not a part of the United States facility and is never talked about, it's inspiration is entirely up for debate. Possible references based on its appearance include:

  • The Minotaur, a monstrous bull from Greek mythology.
  • Rajang from Monster Hunter
  • King Kong
