The Giant Lizard is a Monsters kept in the Facility. It was not listed on the whiteboard, nor was it seen during the System Purge.

Physical Description and Attributes[]

Giant lizard

The Giant Lizard in its cube.

The Giant Lizard appears as a normal-looking lizard, but of abnormal size. It may possibly be an iguana or even a dewlap, as seen by the flap and feathers at the bottom of its neck. The reasoning for the Facility to keep this creature is unknown, but it could be for its enormous size, or that it is hostile towards humans and other animals.

The item that summons the Giant Lizard from the Cabin's cellar is unknown.

Appearances[]

The only time the Giant Lizard is seen is during the scene where the camera pans out to reveal the rest of the Monsters in the Facility.

Inspiration[]

While it is unknown what inspired this monster, but early science fiction films often used ordinary lizards as monsters. They would be projected onto screens alongside actors and visually enlarged to give the impression that they had somehow grown to impossible sizes, usually through radiation or some similar unlikely contrivance. Some references could include:

  • The 1959 movie Attack of The Giant Gila Monster,
  • 1953 movie The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms
  • The 2012 movie Gila!
  • Katie Mitchell's film Penguins of Camp Cretaceous
