Hadley, who is shown to be a fan of the creature. He laments on not having seen the Merman, as it is one of the few monsters he has never seen. However, during the Purge, he does get to see it, just before it kills him.
Physical Description & Attributes
Shown as a humanoid, amphibious but mainly aquatic creature, the Merman crawls to its victim to eat them. Sitterson comments early on that "the cleanup on them's a nightmare." This statement is most likely because of the fact that after they eat their victim, they spray the blood out of a blowhole on their back.
Early in the film the merman is almost conjured up by Curt Vaughan blowing on a conch shell found in the cellar.
Inspiration
On an interesting note, there is not one single reference of mermen as evil creatures in films before. Mermaids were used in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, but all the creatures shown were beautiful women. However, the Creature from the Black Lagooncould be seen as a modern adaptation of the merman myth.
