The Merman

The Merman is one of the monsters on the whiteboard. He is bet on by Hadley, who is shown to be a fan of the creature. He laments on not having seen the Merman, as it is one of the few monsters he has never seen.

However, during the System Purge, he does get to see it just before it kills him.

Physical Description & Attributes

The Merman is shown as a half-human, half-fish monster with flabby blue skin, a huge mouth full of sharp teeth and long, scraggly black hair, and a blowhole on its back. Having a fish tail instead of legs, it has to crawl over land to grab its victims before eating them. The Merman was nearly summoned by Curt Vaughan by almost blowing the conch shell in the cellar which frustrated Steve Hadley since he wanted to see it. It is very obvious that if the Merman was summoned into the cabin, it would have been spawned in the lake since it kills better in the water and that Steve Hadley and Richard Sitterson would have drugged the 5 sacrifices which a chemical that would force them to swim into the lake where they would have been devoured by the Merman.

During the System Purge, the Merman was able to get inside the control room where Hadley was shooting at a Giant Tarantula when Daniel Truman blew himself up along with the Scarecrow Folks using a detonator which triggered an explosion which sent Hadley blasting off and he landed unconscious into the floor where he saw the Merman slowly crawling towards him and he commented " Oh, come on!" in which his face was devoured by the monster and his blood was sprayed out from its blowhole.

Sitterson comments early on that they are terrifying and that "the cleanup on them is a nightmare." This statement is most likely because of the fact that after they eat their victim, they spray the blood out of the blowhole. The Merman is surprisingly one of the few monsters not shown in their cube cell.
