The Reptilius is a Monster kept in the Facility. It was listed on the whiteboard, but nobody bet on its release. It was seen once during the System Purge.

Physical Description and Attributes[]

The Reptilius appears as a large humanoid-reptilian creature. It has green scaly skin, long, dinosaur-like legs and feet, two long arms and hands, and a tail with segmented armor on it, similar to a gecko or bearded dragon. It also has two long horns protruding from the sides of its face.

The item that summons the Reptilius is unknown.

Appearances[]

The Reptilius is released during an unknown wave of the purge, but was only seen once; on a monitor showing a dimly-lit room with a lone female Facility worker at the end of the frame. The Reptilius comes into view and creeps slowly towards the woman from the shadows, and it appears she is unaware of its presence. It is unknown if the woman survived the encounter with the Reptilius or not.

The Reptilius is not seen anytime after this, however a good shot of it can be seen in the visual companion for the film, where it appears to charge at the same woman from the described scene earlier.

Inspiration[]

The Reptilius looks to be an homage to the reptile like alien in Species though the most famous reptilian-humanoid from the horror genre is The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Possible inspirations include:

  • the Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise
  • The shot of Reptilius stalking the woman seen on security screens during the purge is reminiscent of when Velociraptors stalk the children through the kitchen in the first Jurassic Park film.
  • The 1978 film, Slithis may also be an inspiration for this half-reptile/half-human creature. The name is derived from the 1961 Danish Giant Monster film, Reptilicus. Reptilius may also be based on the mysterious reptilian aliens, who are said to be responsible for various UFO incidents.
  • Godzilla
  • The half human, half reptilian ('Zaterran') ninja Reptile, from the Mortal Kombat franchise.
  • The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the franchise of the same name[1] (though this seems unlikely as he is a lizard and not a turtle)
