The Cabin in the Woods Wiki

The Reptilius is a strange animalistic Monster kept in the Facility. It is listed on the Whiteboard, but nobody bets on its release. it is seen once in the System Purge.

Physical Description and Attributes[]

The Reptilius is a large humanoid creature with reptilian-like features. It has green scaly skin, long, dinosaur-like legs and feet, two long arms and hands, and a tail with segmented armor on it, similar to a gecko or bearded dragon. The head of the Reptilius looks almost like a dragon's. It also has two long horns protruding from the sides of its face. It almost has a similar resemblance to Godzilla.

The item that summons the Reptilius is unknown.

The Reptilius is released during an unknown wave of the Purge, but is only seen once; on a monitor showing a dimly-lit room with a female Facility worker at the end of the frame. The Reptilius comes into view. It creeps slowly towards the woman from the shadows, and it appears she is unaware of its presence. It is unknown if the woman survived the encounter with the Reptilius or not.

The Reptilius is not seen anytime after this, however a good shot of it can be seen in the visual companion for the film, where appears to charge at the same woman from the described scene earlier.

Reptilius looks to be an homage to the reptile like alien in Species though the most famous reptilian-humanoid from the horror genre is The Creature from the Black Lagoon. It may be based on in slight appearance and demeanor to the Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. Also reminiscent of the Gator Ghoul from Scooby-Doo. The shot of Reptilius stalking the woman seen on security screens during the purge is reminiscent of when Velociraptors stalk the children through the kitchen in the first Jurassic Park film. The 1978 film, Slithis may also be an inspiration for this half-reptile/half-human creature. The name is derived from the 1961 Danish Giant Monster film, Reptilicus. Reptilius may also be based on the mysterious reptilian aliens, who are said to be responsible for various UFO incidents. Another possible inspiration could be from the 'Zaeterran'-humanoid ninja Reptile, from the Mortal Kombat series.
