The Kraken is one of the Monsters kept in the Facility. It is not listed on the Whiteboard, but is seen towards the end of the System Purge.
Physical Description and Attributes[]
The Kraken known as alastor kraken to Scandinavian and Greek folklore, is an enormous, legendary sea creature with multiple limbs, possibly a giant octopus, that lives upon the ocean floor and attacks the ships and sailors who pass over it. Somehow the Organization managed to capture it and use it for sacrificial rituals (possibly it and the other monsters were simply gifts from the Old Ones.) Although the creature is not seen in its entirety, the Kraken in the film has long, suctioned tentacles like that of an octopus, as described in most lore. Since some species of cephalopods (i.e. squid, octopi, etc.) can squeeze into holes the size of a dime, this may explain how a monster of such massive size could fit into one of the glass cubes, unless its cube was longer in the back and was not fully visible. As mentioned earlier, the rest of the Kraken's body or face cannot be seen at anytime in the film. The Kraken, like other giant monsters and beings in the Facility, are extremely dangerous to encounter. Despite being a sea creature it is perfectly capable of moving across dry ground, even inside buildings. It has tremendous strength and speed when attacking.
Not much else is known about the Kraken. Its likely that due to its enormous size, the Facility is simply studying its development and behavior.
The summoning item for the Kraken is unknown but it could be summoned by some artifact from mythology associated with it, possibly an object related to the sea (possibly the treasure chest seen in the basement is what summons it)

The Kraken is not seen much throughout the film; only being spotted twice. The first time we catch a glimpse of it is during the elevator scene, where it is in between the Scarecrow Folk and the Cthulhu Creature. The next time we see the Kraken is towards the end of the film during the System Purge sequence. When Gary Sitterson and Wendy Lin are trying to escape to the Ritual Chamber via the trapdoor. One of the Kraken's tentacles breaks through the ceiling and snatches her up through it.
Inspiration[]
The Kraken are Scandinavian sea monsters of gigantic proportions said to dwell off the coasts of Norway and Greenland, described as resembling a giant octopus and responsible for dragging ships underwater. The sheer size and fearsome appearance attributed to the Kraken have made it a common ocean-dwelling monster in various fictional works. They're erroneously pictured as part of Greek mythology in the 1980 movie, Clash of the Titans, where it is given a more humanoid form. The Kraken has been referenced and depicted in a few movies, including Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep (2006), Octopus (2000), Octopus 2: River of Fear (2001), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006), The Beast (1996), Kraken (1952), It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955), Tentacles (1977), The Clash of Titans (1980), Eye of the Beast (2007), Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009), and Eye of the Beast (2007).
